Ministries
The MinistriesGood Samaritan Catholic Church is an active spiritual community with opportunities to serve in a variety of ministries. This is a brief outline of those ministries and the person to contact if you have an interest in participating: Altar Society--This group is responsible for setting up the altar for Mass and removing afterwards. Members keep track of sacristy supplies, such as wine, hosts, candles, etc. This ministry makes sure vestments are clean and changes altar cloths for different seasons. They put up ceiling drapes and other decorations for Lent and Easter, straighten books in pews and change them when needed. The members also make certain that altar linens are washed on a timely basis. Chair--Carolyn Wtulich 706 635-6061. Altar Servers--Serve at the altar during Mass and other Liturgies. Training is required and provided by the parish. Coordinator--Julie Zagarola 706 698-9247. Archive Committee--The committee is responsible for organizing Good Samaritan's historical information, which includes records and pictures that date back to 1982. Input from early members of the parish will be very helpful in this effort. The committee will also record all current and future information that will have historical importance to Good Samaritan. Buildings & Grounds--This committee takes are of the routine maintenance requirements of the church building and grounds, such as moving the lawn, minor repairs, construction, etc. Chair--Bob Hussian 706 698-5550. CCD--The CCD program at Good Samaritan educates our youth in the pillars of the Catholic faith. Using an excellent catechism based program, Faith First, volunteer catechists build on the foundation of Catholic teachings that begin at home. The program's goal is to make our faith their faith through inspiration, motivation and example. Chair--Julie Zagarola 706 698-9247. Cookie Walk--This is an annual fund raiser for the parish that supports special projects that come up throughout the year. Cookies are baked and sold by parishioners. Chair--Laura Nizinski 706 635-3672. Eucharistic Guardians--Members spend an hour with the Lord, guarding the Eucharist each Friday from 9 am to 5:45 pm. Chair--Nada Raffaelli 706-636-2935. Eucharistic Ministers--These ministers assist the priest with the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass as well as bringing the Blessed Sacrament to those who are sick and can not attend Mass. Special training is provided by the pastor is a requirement for this ministry. Chair--Susan Shaw 706 276-1692. Flea Market--The annual parish flea market raises funds for special projects that come up throughout the year. Parishioners donate and sell a variety of items in this two-day event each fall. Chair--Debbie Slaughter 678 534-2392. Garden Club--This club plans, plants and maintains flower gardens around the church grounds. Chair--Laura Nizinski 706 635-3672. Hospitality--This committee greets visitors at Mass and welcomes new parishioners. Members also keep current the welcome packets for new parishioners. Chair--Vacant. Knights of Columbus--This is a fraternal organization which provides service to the parish as well as fund raising for local charities. Grand Knight--Harrell Newbury 706 635-8593. Lectors--These ministers proclaim the Word of God during Mass and other liturgies. Special training is required for this ministry. Chair--Susan Shaw 706 276-1692. Liturgy Committee--This committee coordinates and plans liturgical functions in cooperation with the music ministry, lectors, Eucharistic ministers and the pastor. It plans special liturgies such as Christmas and Easter and assists with seasonal liturgical decoration in the church. Chair--Susan Shaw 706 276-1692. Marie Society--The members help with providing care for families who are grieving as a result of a loss of a loved one. They help to coordinate receptions for funerals and other support. Chair--Vacant. Music Ministry--This ministry provides music for Mass and other liturgies throughout the year. Anyone who can sing or play an instrument is encouraged to join. Chair--Ray Crock Jr. 678-721-4542. Parish Cleaning Committee--This group is responsible for keeping the church clean and scheduling volunteers to help with the regular cleaning duties required to maintain the church. RCIA--The RCIA program teaches the Catholic faith to those who are interested in becoming Catholic. Parishioners who would like to teach some aspect of the faith or would like to be a sponsor for someone joining the church are asked to join. Chair--Pat Sands 706-635-8347. St. Joseph Altar--This group plans and organizes an annual observance and special meal for St. Joseph's Day. Chair--Dottie Martuscello 706-276-3423. St. Vincent De Paul Society--This society works with the community at large to help with financial assistance for those who are in need. Chair--Sally Fohrman 706 273-2153. Ushers--Members help welcome parishioners to Mass and assist with crowd control, take up the collections and help people to find a seat for Mass. Chair--Susan Shaw 706 276-1692. Woman's Guild--The guild supports the parish in social activities by coordinating Sunday morning coffee and donuts, scheduling and supporting volunteers who cook monthly breakfasts, scheduling and implementing other social event--including, but not restricted to--welcome or farewell receptions, parish picnics, Lenten Tuesday night soup suppers. In addition, the guild will maintain necessary kitchen supplies and equipment. Chair--Jo Six 706 276-2476. Youth Group--The Good Samaritan Teen Ministry supports and teaches our youth. Anyone interested in helping in some capacity is asked to contact Barry McNeil. Chair--Nathan Padilla 512 608-5865.
